Saadiyat Beach Classic hosted by Gary Player gains momentum

On January 27th and 28th, 2010 Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), the Abu Dhabi-based master developer of Saadiyat Island and Gary Player will host the first ever charity golf tournament at the Saadiyat Beach Golf Club.  The event will bring leading golfing and non-golfing celebrities from around the world to the UAE’s capital to raise money for children in need.

The Saadiyat Beach Classic, hosted by Gary Player will serve as the kick off event for the Arabian Gulf’s first and only ocean-front course and takes place just a few days after the European Tour’s Abu Dhabi Golf Championship which will be held at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club. The Par 72 Saadiyat Beach Golf Course, Gary Player’s first signature golf course in the region, has been designed in a classic ‘figure of eight’ configuration with more a third of the course featuring stunning views of the Saadiyat coastline.

The tournament will pair one celebrity or professional golfer with a team of three amateurs in an 18-hole stroke play event.  To boot, Mr. Player will host a golf clinic for a select number of lucky junior participants.  Hopefully his unique perspective on the game and teaching philosophies will ready the children for the rigors of tournament golf.

The event will open with a welcome barbeque on the gorgeous white sands of Saadiyat Beach featuring a variety of fine foods prepared by some of the country’s top chefs.  A black tie gala dinner highlighted by great entertainment and a silent auction offering a wide range of sports memorabilia, weekend breaks and memberships to the Saadiyat Beach Golf Club, will close the event.

Mr. Player is excited about the tournament.  “I am delighted to be hosting this inaugural charity event that we have conceptualised with TDIC, on a golf course that I am particularly proud of and in a country that is really making the world sit up and take notice.”

Sweet memories with Vivienne and our eldest daughter, Jennifer. Success would not be the same if you are unable to enjoy it with your family.

I love music and I love to dance! Have a lovely weekend, everyone.

Golf is truly a sport for life. Thankful to be 84 and still swinging. 🏌️‍♂️
