Gary Player and Ronan Keating capped a memorable weekend of charity, golf and a Rugby World Cup Final victory by the Springboks by raising over R1 million as part of the A Night with Ronan Keating presented by Citadel charity fundraiser.

The Grand Slam legend and Irish pop star first teamed up for charity in an exclusive gala dinner and fundraising auction at Val de Vie Estate on Friday evening, which raised R1 433 000.00 for The Player Foundation and the Ronan Keating Foundation’s selected beneficiary, the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital Oncology Unit.

Then on Saturday, they each led a team of VIP amateur golfers in an 18-hole match at the renowned Pearl Valley Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, and Team Player won.

This is the second time Keating and Player have come together for this initiative, which is sponsored by specialist wealth management company Citadel.

“The loss of my own mother to cancer still affects me greatly after 21 years, so anything I can do to raise money and awareness for cancer anywhere in the world, I will do. We had a very special night at the gala dinner and auction and were able to raise a lot of money that is going to make a real difference in the lives of children suffering from this disease,” said Keating.

Player, who has dedicated his life to helping people in underprivileged communities through The Player Foundation, was only too pleased to again show his support for this fundraiser.

“We must thank Citadel for their sponsorship of this very important event, which is changing lives. Ronan is such a special person. He is a man full of love, and love is what overcomes all. It’s because of love that we can have so many people giving their support to this fundraiser. There has been so much generosity here and it is literally changing people’s lives,” he said.

The Ronan Keating Foundation is managed through the Citadel Philanthropy Fund, and Citadel CEO Andrew Möller said they remain proud supporters of an event that reflects their company’s core value of helping people to “Reach your Remarkable”.

“Both Gary Player and Ronan Keating have such a passion to give back and make a difference, and as a company we are proud to be able to support individuals who are willing to use their influence to make a difference in our society.

“As a company, we celebrate the remarkable life, and through Citadel Philanthropy we continuously seek opportunities to make a contribution and ensure long-term sustainable change for those around us.”
