OPEN LEGEND VISITS SOUTHPORT SCHOOL

Three-time Champion Golfer of the Year Gary Player was reunited with the famous Claret Jug trophy today on a surprise visit to St Philip’s Church of England Primary School in Southport. Fifteen-hundred schoolchildren from five schools in Sefton will come face-to-face with one of the most iconic trophies in sport this week and for the pupils of St Philip’s, the experience included the opportunity to talk with an Open Champion. Gary Player practised harder, travelled farther and was more meticulous about his diet and fitness than any other golfer of his generation. He started playing golf aged 14 and turned professional three years later, embarking on a career that required him to spend many weeks a year away from his home in South Africa. His enthusiasm for his sport led him to win over 160 tournaments over six decades. He has also played in The Open a record 46 times […]

ROBERT TRENT JONES JR. CONTINUES TO DISRESPECT THE USGA, GOLF AND GARY PLAYER

The Black Knight was in attendance on the USA’s West Coast for the region’s first U.S. Open, walked the course, and saw how it played with his own eyes. Skepticism of holding the iconic event at an unproven and untraditional venue was warranted as a links style […]

PLAYERS INSPIRE COMMUNITY TO CLEAN UP COLESBERG

Grand Slam golfer Gary Player and wife Vivienne once again inspired the community of Colesberg to clean up their town as part of a recycling initiative inspired by the annual Gary Player Invitational tournament. The project was made possible through the partnership between the South African leg of the global Gary Player Invitational (GPI) series and Wildlands, which is a beneficiary of this annual charity golf tournament played at Sun City. “Our partnership with the Gary Player Invitational, Coca-Cola and PETCO is transforming the lives of thousands of community members around the country,” said Wildlands’ CEO Dr Andrew Venter. “Through their support we’re progressively expanding our network of Waste-preneurs, improving lives whilst cleaning and greening the communities they live in. Our Colesberg expansion is driven explicitly by Gary and Vivienne Player who believe in this community. Their personal commitment and dedication is truly inspirational.” The Players have actively driven this project in their […]
