  At the heart of each Gary Player Invitational is the act of giving back to those less fortunate and to raise funds in order to bring hope, help and healing to underprivileged children and communities worldwide. More than $64 million has been raised through the global series, and continues to make a huge difference to the lives of those less fortunate.

THE EVENT Gary Player and a host professional golfers, sports stars, business people will gather at The Palace of The Lost City in Sun City for the 2019 Gary Player Invitational. Each competing team of two amateur guests will get the opportunity to play with a professional golfer, celebrity or sports star, representing an excellent cross-section of business, sports, entertainment and society. The Player Foundation has nominated Wings & Wishes as the beneficiary of the event.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT The Gary Player Invitational is the South Africa’s leading Pro-Celebrity charity golf event, offering companies a fantastic platform for entertainment and networking whilst also raising money for an incredibly worthy cause – The Player Foundation. Teams of 2 amateur guests is joined by a Pro and Celebrity, competing in a team alliance medal competition where the two best scores on each hole will count.

As a soldier in Italy during World War II, Ian had the idea of a 75-mile canoe race from the city of Pietermaritzburg to Durban. It materialized in 1951. Of eight entrants, he was the only one who finished the race, despite being bitten by a poisonous snake.

Gary Player has always felt very strongly about repairing ball-marks on the green. When each player does his or her part in fixing the green after they play, the course will be healthier, more functional, and produce higher quality games.
