GARY PLAYER INVITATIONAL HELPS MOBILISE MORE PEOPLE WITH BICYCLES

The annual Gary Player Invitational (GPI) Gala Auction took place at The Palace of the Lost City on Friday 15 November and raised over R4 million for Wings & Wishes and Qhubeka, in partnership with its implementation partner, Wildlands Conservation Trust.

The GPI is Africa’s leading charity tournament, presented by Coca-Cola. This year’s event was held on 16 and 17 November and featured celebrities teamed with professional golfers and leading business executives. Golfing stars Gary Player, Retief Goosen, Tony Johnstone and Cheyenne Woods were in attendance, along with Law & Order star Anthony Anderson and CSI New York’s Carmine Giovinazzo, Westlife’s Brian McFadden and his glamorous wife Vogue, as well as South Africa’s first couple of radio Unathi and Thomas Msengana.

Here’s how the money raised through the Gary Player Invitational helped Qhubeka to mobilise more people with bicycles in 2013:

The entire golf community needs to continue promoting the women's game. I'm proud to have hosted female players at my events for years, but this shouldn't be special, this should be the norm. Well done, Kate and @JustinRose99. Let's keep growing the game. https://t.co/9Ya4usnNNN

Great memories from the 1962 #PGAChamp. Sending my best wishes to the talented field competing for this year's title. My picks: @JonRahmPGA or @XSchauffele. Who do you think will be crowned champion?
