Gary Player beat out South African master Bobby Locke at the Transvaal Open championship, setting a new course record in the process at Kensington.
“It was during those 16 vital holes in the afternoon that Player revealed his class as a world golfer. During the first nine, particularly, his game looked like going to bits – and, indeed the density of the crowd on two occasions prevented his ball from finding the dense rough-but he held on with magnificent tenacity.”
