India’s crown jewel of golf courses took center stage recently at the Hero Women’s Indian Open and did not disappoint those enjoying the tournament in person or watching on the international telecast.
Most of the professional ladies simply used the phrase – a jaw dropping experience.
Not only did the course look in its best shape both in terms of its aesthetic appearance and its tournament readiness, it was a sight to behold. There were splashes of floral color everywhere, symbolic of the area coming out from summer, mixed in with a spectacular display of local birds and migratory flocks that stopped over to rest their weary wings before continuing with their journey.
“The course is designed to not only create a fun and enjoyable golf outing for the members, but also to host championship events,” said Jeff Lawrence, Senior Designer for Gary Player Design. “The ongoing success of both the Men’s and Women’s Indian Open proves the special versatility of the course.”
Since its opening in 2015, DLF Golf and Country Club has received numerous accolades including “Best Course in India” by the Asian Golf Awards and World Golf Awards. Many of the Ladies European Tour players spoke about the uniqueness of DLF.
“DLF is by far one of the best courses I have ever played, and I can hardly remember a more challenging but yet equally beautiful course anywhere,” said Caroline Martens. “The true challenge of each hole combined with the on point design and layout makes it a course that both can reward you and punish you in a blink of an eye.”
The course also impressed a top-10 finisher.
“DLF is an amazingly pretty course – it’s very picturesque but it’s also one of the hardest courses I know,” said Olivia Cowan. “Not one hole is easy, you have to stay focused from tee 1 and till the last putt falls on 18 more than on other courses. The greens are quite undulating so you have to be precise in where you place your ball on the green. It’s a great course and I would recommend it to everyone going to India. “
Of the more than 400 golf courses Gary Player has designed, this one is exceptional. Being the Black Knight’s only course in one of the most populated countries in the world, DLF surely will play a role as golf develops globally.
“India is really just beginning to scratch the surface in golf, and establishing more courses in the country will be essential for the game to grow not only in India, but this also will make an impact on the game throughout the region,” said Player. “We are proud to be associate with DLF and wish them continued success.”
