Berenberg, the second oldest bank in the world, announced today an extended three year title sponsorship of the Berenberg Gary Player Invitational event in London.
The European leg of the Gary Player Invitational global charity series, staged by Black Knight International to benefit The Player Foundation, will expand to a two-day affair consisting of an official tournament, as well as nightly entertainment cumulating with the charity gala and auction.
The 2014 Berenberg Gary Player Invitational will be held on July 20-21 at the historic Wentworth Golf Club, the longtime home of the World Match Play and the current home of the European Tour’s BMW PGA Championship. Hosted by Grand Slam champion Gary Player, the GPI will once again field a star-studded cast of professional golfers, celebrities and business people to compete for the tournament title, but more importantly to make a difference in the lives of underprivileged children.
“Dr. Hans-Walter Peters and Hendrik Riehmer from Berenberg have been extremely generous in their support of The Player Foundation and our Gary Player Invitational series,” said Gary Player. “As a newly appointed global ambassador for Berenberg, I could not be more pleased with their shared passion for giving back.”
“Gary Player is the finest ambassador of Golf you can imagine. We are proud to present this tournament together with him and to help with the collection of funds for underprivileged children,” says Hendrik Riehmer, Managing Partner of Berenberg.
Since 2011, Berenberg has generously supported the European-leg of the GPI series in London. The multiyear sponsorship has resulted from a relationship developed over the years following the participation of Berenberg Managing Partners Dr. Hans-Walter Peters and Hendrik Riehmer in the GPI at South Africa’s Fancourt Resort.
As the title sponsor, Berenberg has been a trusted partner in raising funds for underprivileged children and impoverished communities. In addition to The Player Foundation, the global bank’s charity, BerenbergKids, will remain a beneficiary of the event.
“Berenberg has been a longtime supporter of The Player Foundation, and we could not be more thrilled to see their commitment grow as we aim for the tournament to raise record funds to help in creating a brighter future for those in need,” said Marc Player, Black Knight International CEO. “We look forward to a fantastic event this coming July that truly represents a ‘Union of Golf and Giving.’”
Over the years, golf stars and celebrities joining the European GPI have included Ronan Keating, Tim Henman, Kenny Dalglish, Mick Fitzgerald, Carly Booth, Henrietta Zuel, DJ Spoony, Brian McFadden, Sean Fitzpatrick, Jodie Kidd and Martin Bayfield.
The expansion of the Gary Player Invitational sponsorship by Berenberg follows the November 1 announcement that golf icon Gary Player will serve as a global ambassador for the renowned private and investment bank.
Founded in 1590, Berenberg remains an independent private bank after over 400 years of business. Spanning across Europe, the United States and Asia, Berenberg is recognized for their quality and distinction in servicing divisions that include Private Banking, Investment Banking, Asset Management and Corporate Banking.
Black Knight International has announced the Berenberg Gary Player Invitational will be the second stop of the global 2014 GPI series, which will also make stops in the United States on April 13-14, China on November 2-3, and finish in South Africa on November 20-23.
