Fancourt, a five-star golf resort in George, South Africa with three Gary Player Designed golf courses, was recently awarded the Editor’s Choice Award for Best International Golf Resort 2018 by Golf Digest. The Golf Digest Editor’s Choice Awards recognized the exemplary year-round resort for its superior service and luxurious features. This is the 4th time Fancourt has received recognition in Golf Digest’s Best Golf Resorts rankings, having already been awarded the title in 2011, 2014, and 2016.
The Resort’s three golf courses, all designed by Gary Player, were also honored in Golf Digest’s ranking of South African courses for 2018. The Links at Fancourt placed first overall, while the Montagu course was rated 8th and Outeniqua 14th. This brings all three courses into the Top 15.
This is the third time that Golf Digest has ranked Links at Fancourt as South Africa’s top course in the last 5 years. It is also the only course in Africa that is certified as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, a USA-based standard, because of its commitment to environmental conservation.
Course designer Gary Player states: “We are so proud of all three courses we have designed at Fancourt. It provides a unique opportunity for guests and members to play three uniquely different courses. Based on one’s skill level and appetite for a challenge, golfers have a choice to play one or all three courses at the resort. The Fancourt team presents the Montagu, Outeniqua and The Links courses to world class standards and I am honored to have contributed to this fantastic golf experience.”
Gary Player Design is currently looking at new opportunities to improve the golf experience at Fancourt and are presently working with the Fancourt team to identify small, but impactful refinements to continuously enhance the Montagu and Outeniqua courses.
Senior designer for Gary Player Design, Jeff Lawrence, describes the possible changes: “We are excited about the opportunities that have presented themselves which will allow us to improve the golf experience and reduce maintenance requirements. Utilizing more of the natural elements to enhance visual aesthetics and creating more strategic awareness to improve playability will be our main focus.”
In addition to this recent recognition from Golf Digest of Fancourt as the leading international golf resort, Fancourt has claimed several other international titles including Africa’s Best Golf Hotel 2017 from the World Golf Awards, as well as Golf Resort of the Year (in the category ‘Rest of The World’) at the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) Awards.
Fancourt continues to live up to high standards year after year and to be recognized both in Africa and around the globe as a world-class golf resort.
