When you arrive in La Paz, the gem of the Baja Peninsula and only a two hour flight from Los Angeles, the first place to visit is The Malecon, a romantic seaside walkway and the vantage point for stunning sunsets and early morning walks. Grab a drink and relax on a waterside bench to enjoy the activity of local fishing boats and sailboats from around the world. When you have washed away the stress and turmoil of every day life and want some real excitement visit one of the top-notch restaurants or clubs that dot The Malecon and dance and dine into the wee hours of the morning. The residents of La Paz are not shy when it comes to having a good time.
After a raucous night of food and drink you may want to slow things down again or then again, maybe not. Whatever is on your agenda you will find it in La Paz. If relaxation is the plan for the day visit the miles of white sand beaches and soak up the sun, explore the historic museums or shop for authentic Mexican arts and crafts. If you are looking for a more adventurous undertaking try your hand at world class sport fishing for marlin, wahoo, tuna and dorado, snorkel with playful sea lions or scuba dive with hammerhead sharks and giant mantas, or Kayak alongside friendly dolphins and whales. Not to be missed are the wilderness islands and tranquil bays of Espiritu Santo Island, La Partida and Los Islotes. The islands are destinations for scuba divers, kayakers, fishermen, snorkelers, hikers and beach lovers. Ecologists work to keep these islands pristine so existing flora and fauna survive and so visitors can learn about the sea and enjoy the white sand beaches, the multi-colored cliffs and the sea life.
Golf is becoming a larger part of the La Paz experience and CostaBaja Resort and Marina is leading the way in luxury living. CostaBaja is a master-planned community that offers exceptional amenities and a spectacular natural setting overlooking the Sea of Cortez and features the first ever Gary Player Signature designed course in Mexico (slated to open in the summer of 2010). Mr. Player is excited about this project for many reasons, but most importantly the focus on preserving the natural beauty of the property by utilizing ecologically friendly methods and reducing chemical and pesticide usage. CostaBaja has its own on-site desalination plant to convert sea water into safe, high-quality drinking water and a water treatment plant that reclaims and purifies wastewater to irrigate the golf course, green areas, and landscaping. In addition, CostaBaja has harnessed the power of the sun using integrated solar panels to power the lighting of the 120-room resort hotel, to heat all of the residential pools, beach club pools and Jacuzzis and to power the vast majority of exterior landscaping lights.
In addition to golf residents can enjoy swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, boating, kayaking, fishing and a state-of-the-art, 250-slip double-basin marina considered to be the finest and safest marina in all of Mexico.
The beauty of the Baja Peninsula and the warmth and openness of the residents of La Paz make it a destination not to be missed.
