Sun International announced today the 12-man field for what will be an intriguing challenge for those who have not played the daunting Gary Player Country Club before.  This year’s Nedbank Golf Challenge, known as “Africa’s Major,” will played Dec 4 – 7 at the Gary Player Country Club at Sun City for the 28th consecutive year.

The $4,8-million ( R47-million) tournament has attracted the following world top 10 stars: Sergio Garcia, who is ranked No 5, the exciting newcomer Anthony Kim, listed at No 6, Sweden’s Robert Karlsson, who arrives with a world No 8 ranking, and another Swede Henrik Stenson, who occupies the No 10 spot.

And if that is not enough Sun International has managed to attract another five international stars, who have been major drawcards on both the US PGA and European Tours and who are listed in the Top 20 in the world rankings.

Englishmen Lee Westwood (No 12) and Justin Rose, runner-up last year to Immelman and who is ranked 15, are joined by KJ Choi of Korea (No 16), American Kenny Perry (No 19) and Spain’s pony-tailed Miguel Angel Jimenez (No 20).

The remaining two players are South Africans. James Kingston, who won the Sunshine Tour’s Order of Merit, is also part of the field as is Rory Sabbatini, ranked No 24.

Immelman, ranked No 21 in the world, earned his invite as he is the defending champion of the Nedbank Golf Challenge.

Said Alistair Roper, Tournament Director: “The greatest golf legends in the world have walked the fairways of the Gary Player Country Club since the tournament’s inception and this year is no exception.”
