The Nedbank Golf Challenge (formerly known as the Million Dollar for its lucrative prize purse) event will be held November 30th - December 3rd at the Gary Player Country Club at Sun City for the 15th consecutive year. Boasting a total prize fund of $4,385,000, and with 11 of the 12 golfers ranked in the top 20, fans can expect a gripping year event this year.
On the South African front, Trevor Immelman and Charl Schwartzel will make their debuts in the country’s most exclusive golf event, while Ernie Else and Retief Goosen will return as competitors - Ernie Els for the 15th straight year. Ryder Cup teammates David Howell and Henrik Stensen will also take part, along with Chris Di Marco, Jim Furyk, Jose Maria Olazabal, Sergio Garcia, Colin Montgomerie and Padraig Harrignton.
While tournament director Alistair Roper was ecstatic about the field for this year’s event, he expressed great disappointment that SA’s third-highest ranked golfer, Tim Clark - one of the four golfers involved in last year’s playoff for the $1.2m winner’s purse - lost out on a spot by one position on the world rankings when the field was finalized.
