The Grove Club in Hertfordshire, England offered a luxurious setting last month for the launch of The Marquis Estate in St. Lucia,  the first-ever Gary Player Golf Hotel.  PLAYER Real Estate, Harlequin Hotels and Resorts and their new partner West Paces Hotel Group have set out to design a stunning 5-star resort that will set the standard for luxury in the Caribbean.

This boutique hotel, currently in the design stages and slated to open in 2011, will include 100 guest suites and luxurious private residential villas adjacent to an awe inspiring Gary Player Signature golf course.  The architecture and interior design will reflect the casual elegance of the PLAYER Infused with Africa award winning style while keeping with the indigenous flavor of the Caribbean Islands.

Gary Player Golf Hotel Suites will range in size from 500 to 900 square feet and will be opulent and plush, providing every modern luxury.  Dark wood, silks, leathers and soft natural lighting will create richly sensual, tactile interiors.  The mood will be one of a contemporary elegance and deep comfort with an atmosphere of effortless sophistication and immediate relaxation.

When you are finally able to drag yourself away from the hotel sanctuary, simply follow the river down through the valley at the Marquis Estate and you’ll end up on the pristine beach of The Marquis Bay, said to be one of the most breathtaking beaches on the island.  Also, commanding fabulous panoramic views over the course to the Caribbean Sea, will be an elegant clubhouse equipped with every modern convenience.

Outside of the Marquis Estate, St. Lucia and its cultural treasures are a fascinating combination of its rich past and traditions.  The island’s people have earned a well-deserved reputation for their warmth and charm, and on the weekends the small fishing villages that dot the coastline offer a great party atmosphere serving fresh home cooked fish and loads of Piton Beer, a local brew that rivals the best lagers in the Caribbean.  St. Lucia itself is sprinkled with fortresses, small villages and open-air markets.  Its steep coastlines and spectacular reefs offer unparalleled snorkeling and scuba diving and not to be missed is St. Lucia’s Soufriere volcano, the world’s only drive-in volcanic crater.  If exercise is on your agenda then grab a guide – they are cheap and plentiful – and venture into the rainforest preserves located in mountainous interior of the island.  There you will find some of the finest hiking and bird watching in all of the Caribbean.
