Masters week 2011 marked an important milestone for The Black Knight, the 50th anniversary of his first Masters victory in 1961, and for Black Knight Wine, the official launch of the second vintage of the The Major Championship Series, Augusta 1961.
“The concept behind The Major Championship Series is to celebrate my dad’s 18 Major Championships and we specifically timed the USA launch of Augusta 1961 to coincide with The Masters. Premiering the wine in Augusta, 50 years after his first Masters victory made all the sense in the world,” said Marc Player, CEO of Black Knight International. “It was a great way to help celebrate one of the most important victories of his career,” he added.
For the second year in a row Gary Player ventured to the Vineyard Wine Market in Augusta, Georgia to meet fans and sign wine bottles. “Becoming the first international player to ever win The Masters is one of the proudest moments of my career and it was really fantastic to have our second vintage launch this week. The reception from the fans has been incredible and I am pretty sure that my right arm is going to fall off after today,” said a very happy Gary Player. Over 600 bottles were signed at the event and over 200 cases were consumed during Masters week.
Augusta 1961 is the second vintage of The Gary Player Major Championship Series from Black Knight Wine. The Gary Player Major Championship series is a limited release wine comprising of 18
vintages each dedicated to one of Gary Player’s Major Championship golf titles; The British Open, US Open, PGA Championship and the Masters on the PGA tour, and the Senior British Open, US Senior Open, Senior PGA Championship and The Players Championship on the Champions Tour. Each vintage will have a specifically dedicated label and the annual production will be limited to 32,500 bottles.
