Gary Player and his design team arrived in Varna, Bulgaria on July 31st to visit the world class BlackSeaRama and Thracian Cliffs - both 18-hole signature golf courses and the first projects for Gary Player Design in Bulgaria. During his stay, Player toured the holes under construction at the links-style BlackSeaRama and reviewed routing plans for the second course, Thracian Cliffs, which is dramatically set in the cliffs overlooking the Black Sea.
Recognized by Bentley International Property as the “Best Development in Bulgaria in 2005,” the BlackSeaRama resort boasts a clubhouse site that takes full advantage of panoramic sea views, as well as a luxurious residential component aimed at local and international markets. In addition to a golf course assessment, Gary Player toured a few model homes during his stay and was extremely taken aback by what the developers have accomplished. At a media event and cocktail function, Player commented that BlackSeaRama is a case in point where land use has been optimized to create something truly special for golfers around the world.
During his walk around the Thracian Cliffs site, Mr. Player was repeatedly struck by “some of the most spectacular views found on any golf course anywhere in the world.” Construction has now commenced on a routing that will go through and around the dramatic white cliffs for which the course is named.
Last stop- Sofia, the capitol city of Bulgaria. Here Gary Player met with Mr. Assen Gagauzov, the Minister of Regional Development & Construction, to discuss the role of golf in the country’s climbing tourism industry. Player’s personal participation in the golf course marketing process, together with the visibility of the Gary Player design brand, has already made a significant impact on golf in this part of the world.
