Retief Goosen was one of the many celebrities on hand for this years Gary Player Invitational.
This year’s Gary Player Invitational, which took place in Miami Beach on March 6th and 7th, was a truly special event in so many ways… Not only was it the 10th anniversary of this glamorous gathering of “golf and giving,” but the new venues – The Setai Club and Miami Beach Golf Club – attracted many new faces and gave the event a unique South Beach flare.
The VIP Treatment
VIP guests had the opportunity to enjoy a private dinner at The Setai Restaurant and a round of golf at Miami Beach Golf Club with Gary Player and two-time US Open Champion Retief Goosen. Each participant also received a set of custom-fit Callaway golf clubs and a pair of handmade Italian golf shoes from the Gary Player Collection.
Teeing it up with famous faces
On Tuesday, March 7th sports stars like Dr. “J” Julius Erving, Tim Brown, Lawrence Taylor and Marcus Allen headed up their foursome teams, as well as Hollywood names like Kevin Sorbo (Hercules), Alan Thicke and Ed Marinaro. Model and actress Beverly Johnson also graciously strutted the fairways of Miami Beach Golf Club and later shared a dance with African-American golfing legend Charlie Sifford.
Night of the Stars
The evening Dinner & Awards Gala, which took place right under the stars on Miami Beach, was highlighted by a mini-concert by Michael Bolton. Nicollete Sheridan watched her beau serenade guests before the South Beach after-party kicked into gear.
Golf & Giving
While golf was the focus by day, the evening gala was dedicated to the impoverished children of Pleasant City Elementary in West Palm Beach. An incredible speech by Principal Andrea Peppers contributed to a very successful auction, and at the end of the day, the cause remained at heart.
Thank You
The Player Foundation would like to thank The Setai, Boschendal Wine, Bombardier Flexjet, Callway Golf, Nebuloni and Dewars for your generosity and participation.
