Gary Player bettered his age for the third consecutive day when he shot a second straight 1-under-par 71 (he shot a 2-under-par 70 on Friday) at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship in Hawaii. It marked the first time in the 73-year-old career that he bettered his age all three rounds. Player has now shot his age or better 24 total times on the Champions Tour.
Adding to his excellent performance this weekend, Gary Player also had the fewest putts by any of the 34 entrants in the tournament with 76 in the three rounds. He finished 27th in the field.
