Player Announces the Grand Opening of Bushman Sands Golf Course in Re-Established Town

Bushman Sands Golf Course resembles the earliest links courses of Scotland.

Sculpted along a mountain ridge and nestled in the heart of the fascinating Victorian railway town of Alicedale, lies a world of golfing challenges BUSHMAN SANDS GOLF COURSE ...

This Gary Player-designed Golf Course, resembling the earliest links courses of Scotland, opened on October 1, 2005. Player announced the official grand opening of Bushman Sands at an invitation-only golf function on Monday, October 17th where government officials, members of the media and VIP guests gathered to celebrate with a round of golf, while receiving a few tips from the Black Knight.

Already having gained star status when Travel & Leisure Golf Magazine named it as one of the Ten Best New International Courses when just 10 holes were playable, the Bushman Sands Golf course offers approximately 6000 meters of difficult driving areas, plenty of bunkering and unique challenges.

A mere 100 km from Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Bushman Sands Golf Course is part of the exciting revival of the town of Alicedale. The project is spearheaded by the Mantis Collection together with ECDC, who have developed the Golf Course, four-star Bushman Sands Hotel & Conference Centre, and the adjacent Bushman Sands Game Reserve.

Gary Player’s brother & South Africa’s most well-known conservationist, Dr Ian Player, also played a key role at Alicedale by introducing new species to the Bushman Sands Game Reserve. Dr Player, who is most famous for saving the White Rhino, also attended the October 17th function where he spoke of his involvement in the Alicedale preservation effort.

Additional amenities at the Hotel adjacent to the golf course include a spa and gym/sports centre, and locker rooms with steam baths. The Bushman Sands Game Reserve nearby offers big game viewing from open-top Land Rovers as well as boat cruises on the New Year’s Dam.
