Aug 28, 2003 |
It has recently been confirmed that Jack Nicklaus and Bob Charles will participate in the annual Nelson Mandela Invitational, hosted by Gary Player and presented by Coca-Cola. The event will be held at Arabella Country Estate outside of Cape Town, South Africa the weekend of November 14th - 16th. Immediately following the event, Nicklaus will join Gary Player in the coastal town of George where they will take on the duty of captaining their respective teams at the Presidents Cup.
The primary focus of this internationally acclaimed event is to help the plight of needy children in South Africa. Beneficiaries are the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund and the Gary Player Foundation, who have received over R5 million since the event was first conceptualized by Gary Player in November 2000. The success of this charitable cause lies in its unique tournament format, with the field made up of eight fourballs, each comprising a senior professional, a regular tour professional, a celebrity and a businessman, competing against each other in a fourball alliance.
