The event marked the culmination of Daley Thompson’s seven day, 367-mile cycle ride against gun and knife violence, an increasingly troubling problem in England.  Gary Player, Boris Becker, Hugo Porta and Steve Waugh were all enthusiastic about lending their help to the endeavor and joined Thompson for the last few miles of his bike ride.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown said: “While we are making real progress with the ‘Tackling Knives Action Programme’, it is vital that we continue to do our utmost to combat violent crime which has such a devastating effect on people’s lives…”

The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation is a universal movement that celebrates the power of sport to bring people together as a force for good.  Player, Daley, Becker, Porta, Waugh and all of the Laureus Academy members are acutely aware of the challenges facing today’s children and are striving to use their notoriety and stellar reputations to promote sport as a tool for social change.
