Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player to Play Charity Match in Montreal for the Children of Leucan
May 16, 2007 | Filed Under: The Player Foundation
Leucan is an association for children with cancer.
Golf legends and close friends Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player will extend their much-anticipated visit to Montreal by one day in order to make a very special appearance at Golf Legends for Children on Monday, October 1st, 2007, at the Laval-sur-le-Lac Golf Club.
Following their duties as Team Camptains for the 2007 Presidents Cup, both Nicklaus and Player will tee it up for charity in an effort to raise over $1 million for the children of Leucan, the association for children with cancer, as well as the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that benefits children with health care needs.
“Barbara and I are committed to the goal that any child that needs care will receive it,” said Jack Nicklaus, winner of a record 18 major championship titles during an illustrious career that has earned him the title of Golfer of the Century and Golfer of the Millennium. “We look forward to returning to the Laval-sur-le-Lac Golf Club and playing a pivotal role in raising funds for these very worthy children’s causes.”
Gary Player, who became the third of five men to capture golf’s career Grand Slam and went on to win 163 professional victories worldwide, has spent over 25 years of his career raising money for underprivileged children’s education globally. Through the efforts of The Player Foundation, he has become renowned as much for his dedication to the principles of philanthropy as he is for his golfing accomplishments.
“I’m honored to be able to help the children of Leucan, and to do this alongside my lifelong friend, competitor and fellow philanthropist, Jack Nicklaus. With 18 grandchildren of my own, this cause really hits home as there’s nothing a child deserves more than love and good health.”
The Golden Bear and Black Knight will treat golf patrons to a memorable day of world-class golf where they will conduct a 45-minute golf clinic prior to playing 18 holes around the historic grounds of Laval-sur-le-Lac golf club, site of the 1962 Canadian Open, which featured both Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player.
Golf Legends for Children Chairmen and event instigators Tracy and Marc Bibeau said: “We embrace the cause of helping sick children and we are honored that our friends Barbara and Jack Nicklaus are supporting our dream of producing this exceptional fundraising initiative for the benefit of the children.”
Golf Legends for Children will be a private event. On October 1st, 2007, Leucan will hold a recognition activity for the major benefactors who will have contributed to the success of the event. Patrons will be invited for brunch and will have access to the Laval-sur-le-Lac club during the day.
Those interested in participating or making a donation may do so by calling Leucan at 514-731-3696 ext. 211.
