Hole 18 at Floridian Gets “Facelift” by Gary Player Design

Floridian boasts a lavish four-story clubhouse, helicopter pad, guest cottages, deep-water marina, and one of the finest collections of sporting memorabilia.

The select few friends and corporate chieftains that have been granted access to Wayne Huizenga’s private course - Floridian - truly have something to look forward to as the golf season begins in Florida. Nestled on 300 acres of waterfront property in remote Palm City, Florida, the Gary Player-designed course recently underwent a total revamp of the riverside 18th hole. The recent hurricanes on Florida’s east coast, which caused substantial beach erosion and led to the building of a seawall, created the opportunity to shift the entire hole - from tee to green - nearer to the water.

“We now have something that reminds me of the 18th at Pebble Beach, with the dogleg-left and its risk-reward opportunities,” Player commented when he played the course recently.

The finishing hole has been both strategically and aesthetically improved. From a strategic standpoint, it offers a tremendous challenge to risk-takers, and visually, the lush landscaping and view of the St. Lucie River from the tee, as well as looking back from the veranda, is strikingly different.

Essentially ‘Huizenga’s Retreat,’ Floridian also boasts a lavish four-story clubhouse, helicopter pad, guest cottages, deep-water marina, and one of the finest collections of sporting memorabilia.

Since Floridian Golf & Yacht Club was born, the Player organization has kept a close relationship with Wayne and Marti Huizenga - the club’s only two official members! For nine consecutive years, the annual Gary Player Invitational has been staged at this spectacular venue and top clients of the Gary Player Group have also had the opportunity to enjoy a round of golf over the years. Gary Player’s design team plans to continue to study the opportunities on site and further enhance the course over the coming years.
