Gary Player’s First Bulgarian Design Named Best New International Course by Golf Inc. Magazine

Just after opening in July, Gary Player’s first golf course design in Bulgaria, BlackSeaRama Golf & Villas, has been named the Best New International Golf Course 2009 by Golf Inc. Magazine. An esteemed panel of industry experts ranging from resort developers to golf course architects judged the field of global finalists. Courses were evaluated on the realization of the developer’s initial vision; effective routing that efficiently and naturally blends the layout into the existing terrain; and overall aesthetics of the course design.
Elevated on a plateau overlooking the Black Sea, the 7,200 yard, par 72 links-style layout takes full advantage of the dramatic coastal site, offering breathtaking panoramic views from almost every hole. As the first championship golf course and first gated golf community in all of Bulgaria, Gary Player’s design goal was to create a course that is understated, playable and enjoyable for all levels of golfer in order to foster the growth of golf in Bulgaria and the surrounding region, while also presenting a challenge for tourists and professional golfers. The final product accomplishes just that.
Located in the seaside tourist town of Balchik, BlackSeaRama Golf & Villas is the first of three Bulgarian courses designed by Gary Player in his effort to bring the game to this emerging golf destination.
The award will officially be presented in April 2010 at the Spring Golf Inc. Conference at the Amelia Island Plantation in Amelia Island, Florida, USA.
