Gary Player took some time out of his hectic schedule during Masters Week to visit his recently-seeded nine holes at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. The Player Creek Nine joins the Nicklaus Bluffs Nine and Palmer Island Nine in completing this 27-hole golf course.
Developers EG Meybohm, Robert Pollard and Wayne Millar, as well as Senior Designer Frank Henegan were on site with the Black Knight as he shared his thoughts on the final product. Player has made several site visits over the last few years providing detailed input for each hole, keeping an eye on the construction of the course and also making changes to several features; so as expected, he was thrilled with what he saw.
“All the elements coming together, from the golf courses to the clubhouse & lodging to the home sites, really make this a special place and I look forward to playing here during future visits to Augusta,” Gary Player commented.
The Gary Player-designed course is now in its final grow-in stage and the clubhouse & lodging facilities are also nearing completion. The grand opening of Champions Retreat is scheduled for June 15th of this year.
