Gary Player, “The Black Knight” Gallently Crusades for Children’s Charities

GARY PLAYER will visit THE CHILDREN’S PLACE AT HOME SAFE in West Palm Beach, at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October 22nd. Following a guest appearance at a welcome breakfast, Player plans to tour this facility for abused children and present a donation to the organizations CEO, Howard Olshansky and famed spokespersons, Bob Beamon and Tico Torres.
The mission behind The Children’s Place at Home Safe runs parallel to that of The Player Foundation, which this year celebrates 20 years of educating and supporting underprivileged children around the world. Given this connection, The Player Foundation made its first demonstration of support for this local charity by donating a percentage of the profits raised at this year’s Gary Player Invitational - an annual exclusive event hosted by Gary Player at Wayne Huizengas private golf course in Palm City, the Floridian. Player, who says “education is the light”, has always shared soft spot for disadvantaged children and plans to continue his support for The Children’s Place.
The Children’s Place at Home Safe is a safe haven for the care and treatment of abused, abandoned, severely neglected, drug exposed and HIV/AIDS infected infants and children. The goal of the organization is to protect and nurture these children and their families.
“We are most appreciative to receive this particular donation from such a distinguished and generous donor as Mr. Player,” commented a very grateful Howard Olshansky. “Funds are always urgently needed for the continued care of our children and the Gary Player Foundation has helped to turn our children’s tears into smiles.”
Through private donations, grant programs and a series of annual events, The Player Foundation raises funds for the previously disadvantaged children of Blair Atholl School in South Africa, established by Gary Player in 1983. Hundreds of children that normally roamed the streets barefoot, for the first time were given the opportunity to be transported by school bus, learn in a proper classroom environment, receive medical care and participate in organized sports. It is the goal of The Player Foundation to bring international dimension to this cause by creating and supporting similar projects in the United States, using Blair Atholl School as a model.
