Paul Casey, the winner of the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship in 2007, who along with four other top golfers hit a few balls on the Gary Player-designed Saadiyat Beach Golf Course came away mighty impressed with the Arabian Gulf’s first ocean course.

“We were hitting golf balls off the 13th tee and some down the beach. It is very, very impressive,” said Casey who along with world No 2 Sergio Garcia and world No 3 Padraig Harrington, world No 12, Henrik Stenson and Australian No 2 Robert Allenby got a feel as they prepared for the $2 million Abu Dhabi Golf Championship earlier this month.

“I think when we stood out there this morning you could feel the wind whipping in. I think that is a wonderful element that this region has and needs to be utilized in golf,” said Casey, adding that the entire development in Abu Dhabi was very impressive.

Saadiyat Island will have the world’s largest single cluster of world-class cultural assets including the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi contemporary art museum and the Louvre Abu Dhabi universal museum.  A number of five-star resorts will also dot the 27 square km island apart from the Gary Player Signature championship golf course.

“This course is really something to shout about,” said Ahmad Hussain, Deputy Director General Tourism Operations, ADTA and Chief Operating Officer, TDIC.

“It has impeccable environmental credentials having been designed by one of the most passionate eco-devotees in the business.”
