Continuing with his torrid pace of travel Gary Player visited Calgary Canada on 21 June to help raise funds for The Southern Alberta Institute of Urology at the inaugural Kinnear Classic. The event, formerly know as the Rockyview Invitational, was a huge success and the funds raised on Monday pushed the 19 year total to well over C$9 million. Gary Player hosted a morning golf clinic and then headed out to the course to provide swing tips and a quite a bit of entertainment to the participants; he was spotted showing off his martial arts high kick skills on more than one occasion and gave a few lectures about the necessity to eat a proper diet and exercise regularly. The continued success of the event lead Alberta minister of health and wellness Gene Zwozdesky to announce that the new emergency department at the Rockyview General Hospital will be named after tournament chairman and local philanthropist Jim Kinnear.
“Golf is this great catalyst of raising money, more so than any two sports put together” Player said.
