The Black Knight will be on hand for the Grand Opening festivities for Thracian Cliffs Golf & SPA in Cape Kaliakra, Bulgaria on the 4th of June. Thracian Cliffs is the second Gary Player designed course developed by Bulgarian businessman Krassimir Guergov and is an integral part of Mr. Guergov’s global campaign showcasing the beauty of Bulgaria.
Thracian Cliffs Resort was designed to carefully blend traditional local architecture with the beautiful natural seafront environment and the wild natural beauty of Kaliakra National Park. While golf is the centerpiece of recreational activities, Thracian Cliffs has strived to make the resort fun for the entire family.
Visitors can relax on Bendida Beach’s 2 km of private white sand beaches, hike or horse-back ride through the Kaliakra National Park, partake in a variety of beach and ground sports, or visit the luxurious spa facilities. Cultural and historic areas like Cape Kaliakra fortress, Museum of the Thracian culture in Varna and the legendary Royal residence of the Romanian Queen Maria Victoria de Edinburgh in Balchik are only a short ride from the resort.
Framed by rugged coastal cliffs and the vast blue of the Black Sea, the 18-hole Gary Player designed course is one of the most dramatic golf courses on earth. ”I’ve been playing golf for 56 years and have never seen a site like this anywhere in the world. I’ve never played on a golf course where you can see the ocean on every single hole. It is truly incredible,” said Gary Player.
Thracian Cliffs’ name originates from the ancient Thracian tribes who inhabited the region during the 4th Century BC. The first historical record about the Thracians is found in the Iliad, where they are described as allies of the Trojans in the Trojan War against the Greeks Among the most famous Thracians were the singer and musician Orpheus and the mythical gladiator Spartacus.
