Gary Player Design Opens Several New Projects in 2010

It is no secret that the past few years have been very difficult for the entire golf course design industry. North America, the traditional hot bed of new projects, has come to a screeching halt, and the number of new project announcements worldwide has dropped significantly. The good news is that Asia led by China, South Korea, and India is taking the lead in new course developments. The Middle East also continues to show a real desire to undertake new and innovative real estate projects.
Gary Player design will open five new projects this year: Saadiyat Island Beach Club (Abu Dhabi), Mazagan Beach Resort (Morocco), Donnafugata Golf Resort & Spa (Italy), Hidden Tiger Golf Club (China), and CostaBaja Resort & Spa (Baja Peninsula, Mexico).
“To open this many projects in this economy is just fantastic” said Marc Player, CEO of The Player Group. “This is an example of the global reach of our business and just how much time and effort we have all put in to develop our brand on a world wide basis. I could not be more proud of the work our entire company has put in over the past few years,” he added.
“The quality of our design continues to shine; I expect these geographically diverse courses to receive rave reviews both regionally and globally,” said Scott Ferrell, President of Gary Player Design.
The other bright spot is South America. With golf returning to the Olympic Games in Brazil in 2016, there is a need for new course developments to accommodate the games. Argentina is also starting to show positive signs with Gary Player Design’s recent Aymuray project in Mendoza and several other new projects in the pipeline in Colombia, Mexico, Uruguay, Belize, and several Caribbean Islands.
“Our industry has been through very difficult times, and our business has certainly not been immune, however we are very proud that we will open so many Gary Player Signature courses around the world in 2010. It’s a testament to a great leader in Mr. Player and a talented team of architects behind him,” added Scott Ferrell.
