Gary Player Confirmed for the 10th Annual Wentworth Senior Masters

Player also won 5 World Matchplay titles at Wentworth Golf Club.

Gary Player will bring his evergreen skills to the European Senior Tour’s flagship event after confirming his participation in the tenth edition of the Wentworth Senior Masters from August 4-6, 2006. The tournament, which will be played over 54 holes on the Edinburgh Course at Wentworth Club in Surrey, will also carry a record prize fund of $250,000.

Player was the first golfer to be crowned Wentworth Senior Masters champion when he won the inaugural event in 1997 and his appearance in this year’s field is a welcome addition to the tenth anniversary celebrations. After tasting success in three Open Championships, three Masters Tournaments, two US PGA Championships and one US Open Championship, Player moved seamlessly into the over-50s arena where he has replicated those achievements with nine Senior Major titles including wins in the 1988, 1990 and 1997 Senior British Open Championships.

In addition to this, Gary has chosen Wentworth Club as the venue for the Gary Player Invitational on July 24, which, through The Player Foundation, will raise money to assist charitable projects that seek to improve the lives of underprivileged children around the world.
