Gary Player Design is excited to welcome Masters and 2009 US Open winner Angel Cabrera to its design team.  Mr. Cabrera will spearhead projects in South America with special interest being paid to Argentina, his place of birth, which is fast becoming a world class golf destination and is considered one of the most interesting and beautiful countries to visit.

Argentina may be best know for its mouth watering beef, Evita Peron and most recently Juan Martin Del Potro’s defeat of Roger Federer at the US Open tennis tournament, however, what is not as well known is what makes Argentina so interesting and appealing to travelers, wine lovers and golfers alike.

Argentina is a stunningly beautiful country with a number of distinct regions that offer a plethora of travel options.  If outdoor activities are on the schedule, visit the Patagonia region which boasts some of the best mountaineering and skiing in the world. The Perito Moreno Glacier (pictured below) is a sight not to be missed. Here you can take a full day boat tour and get close enough to the glacier to not only experience its beauty, but hear the ice cracking and watch huge chunks fall into the sea.  Visitors say it is one of the most incredible experiences of a lifetime as one can not understand the sheer size and power of a glacier until you see it in person.

For the real adventurer head further south to Tierra Del Fuego, a small group of islands located off of the Southern tip of Argentina and Chile.  Here you will find Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world and the gateway to Antarctica.  Seasoned sailors venture into the Straight of Magellan to test their skills by navigating one of the most tumultuous waterways in the world.  For those who prefer a more sedate, but no less interesting adventure, visit the Beagle Channel (pictured below) where boaters, hikers, kayakers and horse back riders can experience the beauty of the islands and get a close up view of the indigenous sea lion and bird colonies.

If wine is your passion take a trip to Mendoza, home to more than 1,200 wineries, numerous five-star hotels and Michelin-rated dining.  The region specializes in Malbec, a once somewhat obscure varietal that is now making serious inroads with red wine lovers across the globe.  Paul Hobbs Vina Cobos recently received a 99 rating from Robert Parker’s Wine Guide for its 2006 Cobos Malbec; the first ever 99 rating for an Argentinean Malbec, and a sign of things to come from this burgeoning wine region.  Mendoza offers more than just great wine and as it is a relatively small region getting around is easy and convenient. You can take a trip to the Andes for hiking and mountaineering, or get a few rounds of golf in at one of the world class courses.

The variety of outdoor activities, world class dining, stunning scenery, rich cultural heritage of the Argentineans will surely leave you wanting to return for a second, third or even fourth visit.
