London, 12 July 2004—An all-star line-up, consisting of prominent United Kingdom soccer, rugby and cricket players, TV celebrities and top executives gathered at The Grove near London to play a round with in the interests of needy children.

Named the Gary Player Invitational, the tournament was proudly presented by Coca-Cola Southern & East Africa and is a ‘sister’ tournament to the Nelson Mandela Invitational - South Africa’s premier charity golf event also hosted by Gary Player and presented by Coca-Cola.

Monday’s play, which was supported by a host of UK celebrities including names like Vinnie Jones, Ronnie Corbett and Olympic legend Sir Steve Redgrave, raised thousands of pounds for the two children’s charities at heart - the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund and The Player Foundation.

The Citigroup Private Bank, SAP, Netjets and Asprey jewellers were among several blue-chip British companies taking part.

Despite the morning’s grey start, the players were in high spirits. The day began with a quick golf clinic, facilitated by Gary Player and Coach Robert Baker. The evening wrapped up, in a rather relaxed fashion, with a gala dinner and well-supported charity auction.
