70 Year-Old Player Makes the Cut at the Senior British Open

Player's 1st Open victory at Muirfield in 1959.

Gary Player certainly has a history at Turnberry, having won there twice in 1988 and 1990, but who knew - in his sixth decade as a professional golfer - that he would make the cut at this year’s Senior British Open? After a remarkable first round of 69, Player said, “I’ve broken my age a lot of times in competitions, but this was the biggest thrill by a long way.”

With it being the 20th anniversary of this storied tournament, it truly is special for Gary Player to be playing through the weekend - especially on a course that he considers one of his top 20 in the world.

Player was 23 years-old when he won his first Open Championship in 1959, and ironically, his physique has hardly changed thanks to a strict diet & exercise regimen.

Go Gary!
